We want to give Essex residents a choice in how they travel. Whether it&#39;s walking, cycling or using public transport, we could all travel more sustainably, especially for shorter journeys which will free up the roads for those that really have to use them. There are over 800,000 cars in Essex with almost half - 46% of all journeys - shorter than two miles. These journeys could be walked by many residents. 71% of journeys are shorter than five miles, making 7 out of 10 journeys likely to be cyclable by many. Why bother? Well if we travel more sustainably, our streets will become less busy and congested, leading to improved air quality. And this will help us all become healthier both physically and mentally.
