The Sustainable Transport team at Essex County Council has received funding through the Active Travel Fund 4 scheme which will allow us to make improvements.
A survey and school gate event took place to shape the changes on the street. A selection of physical measures were explored in 2024, including:
A new raised zebra crossing to slow traffic and improve conditions when crossing.
New speed cushions.
New pencil-shaped bollards.
More law enforcement presence.
Replacement illuminated bollards to improve conditions when crossing.
What is happening along Hawthorn Avenue:
Construction of a raised zebra crossing, speed cushions and carriageway resurfacing will be taking place during 24th of January - 23rd February. The works will be completed over a combination of nights, weekends and daytime working (daytime half-term working only).
We have also employed Enforcement Officers to patrol school streets and enforce current restrictions and encourage considerate parking behaviours
