E-scooters

Essex County Council are running an e-scooter trial, part of the UK’s nationwide e-scooter trials. This service is exclusively available to adults (18+) who possess a valid full or provisional driving licence and have registered with the e-scooter provider via their app. This ensures they are covered by insurance, similar to car insurance.

Important safety information:

Not for children: e-scooters are not toys and should not be used by children.

Account holder only: only the registered account holder is permitted to ride the e-scooter. If someone else rides it, the e-scooter will be uninsured.

Safety first: never allow family or friends to use your account to ride the e-scooter. This is crucial for everyone’s safety.

Legal consequences: both the rider and the account holder could face a £300 fine and 6 points on their driving licence if the e-scooter is used by someone other than the account holder.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

Over 3 million e-scooter rides have now taken place in Essex since the launch of the Department for Transport's e-scooter trial three years ago. To mark the milestone, Essex County Council wants to hear views from users and residents about their experiences. Whether a regular or occasional rider or a resident, the aim of the short survey is to help ECC plan for the future of the scheme.

The trial locations in Essex which we want to hear feedback on are:

    • Basildon
    • Braintree
    • Colchester
    • Chelmsford

The survey runs until 3rd January 2025 and should only take around 10 minutes to complete.  If you have any queries regarding the survey please contact: escootertrials@essex.gov.uk

Thank you for your time in completing this survey.
