Safer Streets: Winstree Road & Villa Road Area

We’d love to hear about the impact that the new zebra crossing on Villa Road and presence of enforcement officers on and around the Winstree Road area have had on your travel habits, and how they may have affected road safety for you.

We would like to get your feedback on new potential improvements as this will help us better understand how people experience the street and explore ways we can work together to make it safer for everyone.

Whilst we do not currently have funding identified for future improvements, understanding local priorities now will help us develop potential ideas and proposals. Should funding opportunities become available in the future, having this evidence and feedback will help us make informed decisions and be better prepared to bring forward suitable schemes.

The images above show the zebra crossing on Villa Road as well as a map of the area where work was completed last year.

In February 2025 the following improvements were made:

• Zebra crossing outside Stanway Primary School on Villa Road to improve conditions crossing the road, particularly from the park and stride side (Stanway Community Centre).
• School Street Enforcement – officers are more frequently enforcing restrictions as well as educating parents on more considerate parking
• Promotion of park and stride sites:
  • Co-op Springwood Drive, Peartree Road
  • Stanway Community Centre on Villa Road
  • Stanway Rovers Football Club on New Farm Road
• Bikeability Training – Cycle safety training for pupils, training 39 year 6's this year.  

What we've also offered the schools:

• School Travel Plans 
• Active Travel Pledges – We encourage pupils to sign these each year to promote healthy, sustainable travel
• Car Sharing Materials – Encouraging families to share lifts where possible
• Sustainable Travel Route Maps – Helping families find the best walking and cycling routes
• Pedestrian Road Safety Training – Teaching children how to stay safe on foot
• Educational Materials – Including resources on air quality and anti-idling
