Wickford - Healthy School Streets

Nevendon Road in Wickford has been transformed into a Healthy Schools Street zone and the first phase of a Liveable Neighbourhood in 2023 seen here. We recently received additional funding which will allow us to make additional improvements and have engaged the local school communities to help us understand what further measures could be implemented.

These include:

  • School Street sign on Oakhurst Drive
  • Refresh existing double yellow and school keep clears outside Grange Avenue
  • Refresh existing double yellow and school keep clears outside North Crescent
  • Extension of protective railings outside the school
  • Nevendon Road and side Roads: 20mph roundels, slow markings and repeaters along the length of Nevenden road and side roads
  • Creating and or continuing a School Travel Plan with our coordinator Nick Hill.
  • Active Travel Pledges. We recommend getting pupils to sign these each year.
  • Unfortunately, local park and stride sites explored are too crowded to accommodate parent parking at this time.
  • Car Sharing
  • Sustainable travel route maps.
  • Bikeability Training for pupils (please note Infant schools are not included).
  • Pedestrian Training Road Safety Course.
  • Educational Materials. (see attached and can you link to the Anti-idling campaign on the Air Quality website: What can I do? | Essex Air)
  • We are seeking to employ more Enforcement Officers to patrol school streets and enforce current restrictions and encourage considerate parking behaviours
Regarding the construction timescales along Nevendon Road Wickford, Pedestrian guard railing works outside North Crescent Primary School have started on the 1st of August. Further signing and lining works may be undertaken in autumn ’24, this is subject to change.
