In 2023, Essex County Council worked with Myland Primary School and the local community to identify key safety concerns along Mill Road. Early engagement included a survey, school engagement events with parents, and workshops with residents, which highlighted issues such as unsafe parking, speeding, and narrow footways. A follow-up school gate event was held on 10 December 2024, with parents engaging with officers outside the school gates and residents were consulted at Well Church prior to Traffic Regulation Order consultation. The feedback obtained has helped to refine the schemes proposals, particularly around enforcement and footway width.
Scheme Details
• Red route restrictions outside the school (8:30–9:30am, 2:45–3:45pm) – the legal Traffic Regulation Order is currently being considered for its implementation
• Widening of the existing footway with the installation of pencil bollards introduced to protect pedestrians
• Introduction of a 20mph speed limit along Mill Road and Raven Way with road markings
• Promotion of the Dog & Pheasant pub car park as a Park and Stride site
• Child crossing road markings

Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2026.
