Make Your Move Essex

We've launched a new campaign encouraging young people aged 18–25 to choose more sustainable and active ways of travelling as they return to college this autumn.

The six-week “Make Your Move” campaign will run until mid-October across Instagram and Spotify as well as on the backs of buses in Colchester and Chelmsford. Its focus is on the everyday benefits of sustainable travel - whether it’s catching up with friends, enjoying time to think or getting fitness for free - rather than automatically reaching for the car keys.

The campaign follows research commissioned by the team which shows that while walking remains the most popular mode of transport for young people travelling to school, college, work, shops, or leisure activities, driving a car comes in second. According to the findings:

  • 68% of respondents said they travel by walking

  • 53% by car

  • 40% by bus

  • 8% by bike

The survey found that convenience, speed, and cost were the main factors influencing young people’s travel choices.

We're asking young people to post a selfie of themselves walking, cycling or using public transport tagging @essex_cc with #MakeYourMove to be in with a chance of winning some fantastic prizes.
