Event: Guided cycle ride around Chelmsford

During lunchtime, employees from across the council came together to enjoy some fresh air, be active, and experience how cycling can be both a practical and enjoyable way to travel. The route was planned to be flat, scenic and only on cycle lanes, making it suitable for cyclists of all abilities and confidence levels.

The event was extremely well received, with participants highlighting both the social and wellbeing benefits of taking part:

"Great session. Communication was excellent, and the ride leaders were friendly and supportive."

"Relaxed, sociable and a really nice way to do something different during lunch."

"This motivated me to get back on a bike after many years of meaning to. It was lovely to discover Chelmsford's beautiful parks, meet some interesting people and get some fresh air at lunchtime."

The ride not only provided an opportunity for colleagues to connect and explore the local area but also helped build confidence in everyday cycling.

By offering initiatives such as guided cycle rides, we are helping to create a workplace culture where active travel is accessible, enjoyable and supported, enabling more people to consider walking, wheeling and cycling as part of their daily journeys.
