Our sincerest apologies about the delays regarding the works along Bowes Road. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen product supply issues with the zebra crossing beacons and poor weather conditions during the February half term, elements of work were not able to be completed within the original programme. As a result, some works needed to extend beyond the half term period. As works have not been fully completed to the zebra crossing, this has been kept closed to avoid any confusion between those walking and driving.
To minimise inconvenience, the remaining works will be installed from the 7th of April during the Easter half term. Should working need to extend into school term, remaining activity will take place during off-peak hours only (to not interfere with access to the school during opening and closing times). Appropriate traffic management will be in place to minimise disruption and ensure the area is safe whilst remaining works are outstanding. We understand your frustrations and we thank you for your patience.
Safer crossings, improved pavement quality, and improved enforcement were identified during engagement with the local community. Works are now underway to introduce the following:
• New zebra crossing introduced
• Red route restrictions (8:15–9:15am, 2:45–3:45pm)
• Footway resurfacing
• Child crossing road markings
Whilst we have made a good start to delivering the improvement works, due to poor weather conditions on several days during February half term week and an unforeseen product supply issue, we have not been able to complete all elements of the scheme within the original programme. These final works will take place during the Easter holiday during off‑peak hours only. Appropriate traffic management will be in place to minimise disruption and ensure safe spaces for you whilst we work.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the community’s patience while we complete these essential improvements.
