Bowes Road Wivenhoe

Millfields Primary School

In 2023, engagement with Millfields Primary School, parents and local residents identified key priorities for change on Bowes Road, including safer crossings, improved pavement quality, and improved enforcement. On 24 October 2024, an engagement event took place with parents outside the school gates and with residents at Loveless Hall, where printed design plans were presented and proposals discussed prior to the Traffic Regulation Order consultation. Feedback focused on the zebra crossing, red routes, and signage, and has been used to refine the scheme.

Scheme Details

• New zebra crossing introduced in the vicinity of the school

• Red route restrictions (8:15–9:15am, 2:45–3:45pm )

• Footway Resurfacing

• Child crossing road markings

Bowes Road improvement works update:

Whilst we have made a good start to delivering the improvement works, due to poor weather conditions on several days during this half term week and an unforeseen product supply issue, we have not been able to complete all elements of the scheme within the original programme. As a result, some works will need to continue beyond the half‑term period. As the works have not been completed to the new zebra crossing we will need to keep it closed to avoid any confusion between those walking and driving .

To minimise inconvenience, remaining activity will take place during off‑peak hours only (i.e. not interfere with access to the school during opening and closing times). Appropriate traffic management will be in place to minimise disruption and ensure safe spaces for you whilst we work.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the community’s patience while we complete these essential improvements.
